Washington Capitals sign Garnet Hathaway to four-year deal
The Washington Capitals have signed Garnet Hathaway to a four-year deal.
The Washington Capitals have picked up Garnet Hathaway, who spent the last four years getting time between the Calgary Flames and their AHL affiliate, the Stockton Heat. Going undrafted, he has worked his way up to the NHL through play at Brown University, the Abbotsford Heat, Adirondack Flames, and the Stockton Heat. He gets a four-year deal worth $1.5 million.
Hathaway brings a physical presence to his game that dominated the Flames fourth line and will be applied to his new role with the Capitals.

Last year in 76 games with the Flames, he put up 11 goals and eight assists and played in all five Flames playoff games.
He scored his first NHL goal on November 20, 2016, against the Detriot Red Wings. Hathaway picks up points here and there and is able to play a two-way game that is huge for game momentum.
Also, he finishes his checks and makes sure the guys on the ice are aware of him. He is also one of the guys that won’t be afraid to open his mouth on the ice and let you know his thoughts on the last play.
Beyond that, Hathaway contributed many hours with the Flames Foundation going into schools to meet young fans and share the spirit of hockey throughout the community.
At this point in his career, Garnet looks to be an everyday NHL player. He is a flexible player that will fit the mold of any team he is working with. His play really shows his competitive mentality and willingness to do whatever he needs to do to put his team in the best position to win. He works hard and there is no doubt he will fit right in with the Capitals.
With already tight cap space, Garnett Hathaway was a tough player to keep in Calgary but he will be missed all the same.
