The 6’4” and 207-pound defender surprised the hockey world when he was taken sixth overall in the 2019 draft by the Red Wings. Projected to be a late first round to early second round pick, general manager Steve Yzerman reached to make sure they were able to get Seider.

It is apparent that Yzerman sees something special in Seider because he was willing to take him so high. As of now, he has lived up to expectations as he excelled in development camp.
At development camp, Shawn Horcoff, the Red Wings’ director of player development, said the following on Seider – “He can skate. He has some poise and good sense. He was really impressive today.”
With the Red Wings currently killing off the bad contracts of Jonathan Ericsson, Trevor Daley, and more, Seider has time to develop in Detroit’s minor league affiliates. While no official decision on where Seider will start off next season has been announced yet, it will likely be announced at the conclusion of training camp in September.
He has size, a good hockey sense, and impressive skating ability. Seider has the capability to be a franchise player with Detroit. His first test will come at training camp where he has to fight for a role with the Red Wings. If he does not make their’ roster out of training camp, which is highly likely, he will need to show that he can work hard and play adapt to different roles.
Signing Seider to his entry-level contract is ideal and sets the Red Wings up in a good position moving forward. While some may doubt him, he shows that he is willing to compete and has the arsenal to be a big part of the Red Wings future.
