Jan Mysak celebrated his 17th birthday on June 24th. Jaromir Jagr turned 47 in February. On the 31st of July, the 2020 NHL Draft prospect and the 1,911-point future Hall-of-Famer squared off.

Jaromir Jagr had a goal and an assist and 2020 NHL draft prospect Jan Mysak, 30 years his junior, scored a goal and added two helpers in a pre-season match in the Czech Extraliga. It’s not too often that there’s this much age-spread between two players. Jagr may be well over 40, but he still has relevant talent in Extraliga that ensures this is still a respectable accomplishment.

Mysak set up Litvinov’s third goal of the game to tie the match at three before scoring to give them lead. The Jagr-owned Kladno team would tie the game, but Mysak would assist on the game-winning goal in overtime to give Litvinov the win.

Mysak starts the 2020 NHL Draft projections in the late-first to the early second-round area. If he continues his strong play he could find himself moving more towards the middle of the first round.

Last season, for HC Litvinov U19, Mysak had 21 points in nine games, essentially mocking his competition.

While promoted to the Czech professional league, Extraliiga, he recorded seven points in 31 games. It’s important to digest that he spent the entire season as a 16-year-old.

It doesn’t matter what professional league it is, playing at the age of 16 is no small feat. Having even minimal success should be considered exceptional.

For the 2019-20 season, Mysak will be a prominent player on HC Litvinov and is set to be more involved than other teenage players have been in the past in the Czech Extraliga.

The increased ice-time from last year will allow him to showcase his abilities more and gain some confidence early on.

Mysak won’t receive the same sort of coverage as talented prospects from the WHL, OHL, QMJHL and USDP, but he’s worth paying attention to as the season progresses. There’s a good chance he hears his name called in Montreal on day one of the 2020 NHL Draft along with other European players like Tim Stutzle and Vasili Ponomaryov.
