Philadelphia Flyers: The key is in Travis Konecny’s hands
The Philadelphia Flyers need more from Travis Konecny in 2019-20.
Entering the 2019-2020 season, Travis Konecny is slotted to be the Philadelphia Flyers top line right wing, but the Flyers need him to crank up his production levels if they want to make the postseason.
The 22-year old right-winger from London, Ontario has now spent the last three seasons on their big league roster. In each of those seasons, Konecny has proven to be a reliable winger with a lot of offensive upside.

Konecny scored only 28 points in his rookie campaign but missed 12 games. After playing 80+ in the past two, Konecny averaged around 46 points. For a first-line winger, the Flyers really need him to bring his game to another level.
Playing across from Claude Giroux, who hit 85 points last season and normally finds himself around 80+ per season, Konecny has a setup man like no other and should be receiving opportune chances this season.
Not to mention Sean Couturier, who himself was once a 40-point guy, has recently found himself scoring 76 points each of the last two seasons. Couturier is anchoring the line of Giroux and Konecny and should find himself helping the triad booster the Flyers production.
Being the 4th highest scorer on the Flyers roster last season, Konecny should improve this season giving the Flyers four different 60+ point players. JVR, judging he doesn’t miss time, should give them five 50+ point guys in 2019-2020.
Flyers 2018-19 Stats
Claude Giroux – 22G 63A – 85P
Sean Couturier – 33G 43A – 76P
Jakub Vorachek – 20G 46A – 66P
Travis Konecny – 24G 25A – 49P
James van Riemsdyk – 27G 21A – 48P
The Flyers have not made the postseason since they got bounced in the first round in 2017-18 to Pittsburgh. Travis Konecny needs to be a prime target if the Flyers want to find themselves in the playoff conversation.
Historically, the Flyers have been postseason mainstays, and in the thunderdome that is the Metropolitan Division, they’re going to need that top line, as well as the JVR, Voracek, and newly acquired Kevin Hayes line, to be among the NHL’s top producers.
The Flyers have an excellent prospect line, but right now their chances rely on the 22-year old winger and his fellow young guns that inhabit the Flyers roster.
