The St. Louis Blues being their defense of the Stanley Cup when they host the Washington Capitals on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 8:00 p.m. EST. Here’s how to watch via live stream.

It is very rare to see the reigning Stanley Cup champions squared off against the previous Stanley Cup champions in the first game of an NHL season. But fans are getting a very special treat on Opening Night to kick off the 2019-20 season. At 8:00 p.m. EST on Wednesday, Oct. 2, the St. Louis Blues will host the Washington Capitals at Enterprise Center.

The Blues will be raising their Stanley Cup banner in front of the 2018 champions. It should be an extremely emotional moment, as St. Louis has waited a very long time to raise the banner up to the rafters. The Capitals know that feeling, as they raised their banner a year ago.

Fans should expect a very emotional game. Last year, the Capitals were able to channel those emotions positively, as they blew out the Boston Bruins. It will be interesting to see if the Blues can do the same to the Caps.

The Blues are bringing back most of the same roster they iced last season in the playoffs. Patrick Maroon is gone, but he’s the only major guy to have left the Blues during the offseason. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ice, the Capitals made quite a few changes this summer. They signed Richard Panik, Brendan Leipsic, and Garnett Hathaway. Additionally, the Capitals traded for defenseman Radko Gudas.

Defenseman Michal Kempny will not be playing for the Caps, as he’s still not quite 100% healthy after suffering a knee injury in March. He is, however, expected to be back very soon. Center Evgeny Kuznetsov will begin serving a three-game suspension for his actions that involved using cocaine.

The game is expected to have a delayed start, as the ceremony typically lasts longer than anticipated. But Blues fans have waited over 50 years to see a Stanley Cup Champions banner raised to their rafters. And Capitals fans will certainly understand the delay, as they witnessed the unforgettable experience of seeing the banner rise just a year ago.
