A day after a tough loss, the Florida Panthers were able to get a win against the New York Rangers, besting them 6-5 in a shootout.

Now this… this is the kind of game I love to see!!!! It was reminiscent of the Washington Capitals game in that it was a high scoring affair with a great atmosphere and a surprisingly large showing of Florida Panthers fans made their appearance in the stands at the Garden.

The Panthers bounced back after yesterday afternoon’s loss to win today in Madison Square Garden 6-5 in a shootout that was worth every nail-biting, heart palpitation, ooh, and ahh. Let’s get straight to the action. The New York Rangers opened up the scoring at the 5:06 mark of the first period as Ryan Lindgren, assisted by Ryan Strome and Artemi Panarin, made the game 1-0.

At the 18:13 mark, Aleksander Barkov, assisted by Evgenii Dadonov made the score 1-1, which also brought Barkov’s amount donated to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital $8,000. 30 seconds later, our rookie from the AHL, Dominic Toninato made the score 2-1, assisted by Dryden Hunt and MacKenzie Weegar.

The second period was when a majority of the scoring happened and it was back and forth madness. Filip Chytil from the Rangers opened up the scoring, assisted by Pavel Buchnevich and Chris Kreider, at the 1:28 mark to tie the game up 2-2.

At the 4:42 mark, Dadonov, assisted by Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau, regained the lead on a power play to make the game 3-2 Panthers. At 5:31, Brady Skjei of the Rangers tied the game up again to make the score 3-3. Two minutes later, Kaapo Kakko, assisted by Strome and Tony DeAngelo, scored as the Rangers retook the lead on a power play 4-3.

At the 8:30 mark, Frank Vatrano, assisted by Dadonov, tied up the game once again at 4-4. Kreider, assisted by Adam Fox and Panarin, once again scored, as the Rangers retook the lead 5-4. I didn’t even get to watch this game, but my phone was blowing up during the second period just because of all the goals that were being scored. It felt like a game of hot potato because of how much back and forth action there was.

Brian Boyle scored the lone goal of the third period, and it was assisted by Keith Yandle and Mike Hoffman to tie the game up 5-5. Regulation came to an end and both teams gained a point. However, the Panthers just would not remain satisfied with one point. Overtime came and went and now it was time for what seems to be the Panthers favorite way to make their fans lose their minds. It was time for a shootout.

Vatrano opened up the scoring in the shootout to make it 1-0. Kakko was next and he made it 1-1. It all came down to Vincent Trocheck and boy oh boy did he deliver. He got the game-winning goal and as Steve Goldstein, one of the Panthers commentators so famously says, “Let’s Go Home Baby”.

The Florida Panthers emerge victorious with a score of 6-5! This was such a high intensity game and I for one am insanely proud of this team for not giving up, not letting yesterday’s unfortunate ending mentally demoralize them, and for working together as a team like we know they’re capable of.

Next game is on Tuesday night against the team leading the Panthers division: the Boston Bruins. That’s all I’ve got for now. Until next game, have a wonderful week and as always, Let’s Go Cats!
