The Florida Panthers came out with an impressive 4-3 win over the New York Rangers on Saturday.

In a night that featured a tribute to cancer, emotions were felt, goals were scored, and the Florida Panthers got a 4-3 win. The night started off with everyone receiving purple rally towels and a moment of silence with everyone’s phone flashlights turned on to honor those that have fought their battle and won, those that unfortunately lost, and those that have been fortunate enough to defeat their battles or be announced in remission.

It was a beautiful experience to be a part of and that was only the beginning of what would be an absolutely awesome night. Now let’s get to the recap of the incredible game.

The Panthers knew that their goal was to not let the Rangers leave the arena with two points after the tough loss the other night against the Winnipeg Jets in which they ended up with 0 points. Mike Hoffman, assisted by Keith Yandle and Jonathan Huberdeau, got the first goal at the 2:05 mark. It also gave Huberdeau the franchise record for assists. The crowd was lively and feeling good.

Only 34 seconds later at the 2:39 mark, Rangers forward Ryan Strome, assisted by Jesper Fast and Ryan Lindgren, tied up the game for the Rangers 1-1. The Panthers would score again at the 6:50 mark as Evgenii Dadonov, assisted by Huberdeau and Yandle would regain the lead on the power play to make the score 2-1.

The Rangers would come back to tie it up though once again at the 8:47 mark. The goal was scored by Artemi Panarin and assisted by Strome and Hajek to make it 2-2. Rangers defenseman Tony DeAngelo, assisted by Panarin and McKegg opened up the 2nd period at the 5:47 mark to make the score 3-2.

But the Panthers would claw their way back to tie up the game 3-3 at the 7:51 mark. The goal was scored by Brent Connolly and assisted by Brian Boyle. The final goal of the second period was scored by Evgenii Dadonov and assisted by Jonathan Huberdeau and Keith Yandle at the 17:44 mark to make the score 4-3.

There were no goals scored in the 3rd period and the Panthers fans all went home very happy. In addition to the fans being happy, Coach Joel Quenneville was also very happy as he notched his 900th win as a career head coach.

Allow me to end on this note: While I was obviously pleased with the end result of this game, I still saw some of the same mistakes being made in front of our net. I also noticed that there seemed to be an overwhelming amount of Rangers fans there and when their team scored a goal, the cheers were deafening.

The attendance was a little over 16,000, which is remarkable for a home game for us. The only thing I’d like to change is to really have our voices heard when we score. Our fan base is fantastic. We just need to get louder and louder at every game and remind the opposing fans that they’re on our turf and will not silence us. That’s all I’ve got for now. The next game for the Panthers is Tuesday night at the BB&T Center against the Philadelphia Flyers. Until next game, Let’s Go Cats!!!
