Florida Panthers beat Flyers in big win to move into second place
After a 5-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, the Florida Panthers moved into second place in the Atlantic Division.
The Florida Panthers seem to be finding their rhythm and things seem to be moving more fluidly on the ice. They beat the Philadelphia Flyers last night at the BB&T Center 5-2. I wasn’t actually at this game but I was able to watch a majority of it on tv.
This was a fantastic game all around. There were still some issues of protecting our net on defense but then they stepped up when they needed to. Our offense was phenomenal. Let’s get to the highlights of last night’s remarkable win!

The Philadelphia Flyers opened up the scoring at the 6:26 mark to make the score 1-0. The goal was scored by Travis Sanheim and assisted by Philippe Myers and Kevin Hayes. The strange thing I’ve been noticing is that I’ve been abnormally calm when we’ve been down goals because I’ve just had the ultimate faith in this team to come back and win plus they seem to play better when they’re playing from behind and that’s what they did.
At the 10:38 mark, Colton Sceviour tied the game, assisted by Mike Matheson and Brett Connolly. Less than two minutes later, Brett Connolly, assisted by Vincent Trocheck, made a crazy angle shot that bounced off of Carter Hart’s goalie helmet and into the net to make the score 2-1 for the Panthers. I’ve been watching hockey for quite a few years now but never have I seen such a crazy goal like that.
The second period opened and at the 6:46 mark, Aleksander Barkov, assisted by Evgenii Dadonov and Josh Brown, made the score 3-1 for the Panthers. That goal by Aleksander Barkov also brought his total amount donated to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital to $11,200! Way to go Barkov!
At the 10:23 mark, Jonathan Huberdeau, assisted by Barkov and Dadonov, made the score 4-1 for the Panthers. Flyers rookie Morgan Frost, assisted by Travis Konecny, then made the score 4-2 for the Flyers at the 14:20 mark. That was Frost’s first career NHL goal.
A few minutes later, Huberdeau got hit in the mouth which caused him to bleed pretty badly. The Panthers were on a four-minute double minor Power Play because of it. Unfortunately, they were unable to score on it. However, Huberdeau did return in the third period because hockey players are just total rockstars like that.
The Flyers pulled their goalie with approximately three and a half minutes remaining in the 3rd period and at the 17:28 mark, unassisted, Mike Hoffman buried that puck in the empty net to make the score 5-2 and the rest is history. Barkov and Connolly were the two stars from the Panthers and the third star belonged to Frost from the Flyers.
The next game for the Panthers is on Thursday night against the Anaheim Ducks in Sunrise at the BB&T Center where the Panthers will try to finally get their first three-game winning streak of the season. Will it happen? Only time will tell. That’s all for now. Thanks for reading and until next time, as I always say, Let’s Go Cats!
