The Florida Panthers lost their second straight game, as they fell to the New York Islanders 3-1 on Thursday, December 12.

The Florida Panthers couldn’t get it together last night for a second straight game, as they lost 3-1 to the New York Islanders and the Islanders got the season sweep. Let’s get to the recap.

No goals were scored in the first period. In the second period, the goals were scored by Devon Toews, assisted by Jordan Eberle and Anders Lee, Mathew Barzal, assisted by Eberle and Josh Bailey, and Mike Hoffman, assisted by Mark Pysyk and Brett Connolly.

In the third period, the only goal scored was by Lee. The Panthers looked gassed all night last night. When they needed to show a sense of urgency, they just looked slow and sluggish. Bobrovsky did well, but again, the defense left him out to dry.

These last two games, the team as a whole has seemed complacent. They need the spark back that they had when they were on their back to back win streak. I want nothing more than to see this team succeed, make it to the playoffs, and to perhaps see them make the Stanley Cup Finals, because what could be sweeter than seeing your team hoist the Stanley Cup trophy for the very first time?

I can imagine how sweet it is because I watched the Stanley Cup Finals last season and saw the St. Louis Blues beat the Boston Bruins in Boston. I remember how happy and emotional the city of St. Louis was and how many people showed up for the victory parade. All this is just such a beautiful thought in my mind and I know it may all seem like a distant and outlandish pipe dream.

However, I feel like it can become a possibility. In fact, I know it can be a reality. But, in order for it to happen, this team has to step it up. They have to find their rhythm on offense. The defense has to step up. The goaltending needs some work too. I know that Coach Quenneville holds this team to an exceptionally high standard and he has every right to do so because he knows what they’re capable of. I know what they’re capable of.

The question is, does this team know what they’re capable of? Time will tell. Our next game is against the Boston Bruins Saturday night at the BB&T Center. The Bruins are currently on a losing streak so it’s time to keep that losing streak going for them. That’s all I’ve got for now. Thanks as always for reading and as I always say: Let’s Go Cats!
