According to the NHL trade rumors, San Jose Sharks defenseman Brenden Dillon is drawing a lot of interest on the trade market. The Winnipeg Jets and Boston Bruins are among those teams.

The NHL trade deadline is less than a month away. Teams are starting to call about players they are interested in. One player who is drawing quite a bit of interest is San Jose Sharks defenseman Brenden Dillon. He’ll be a free agent after this season, so the Sharks will likely trade him. According to the latest NHL trade rumors, six teams have expressed interest in Dillon. Two of those teams are the Winnipeg Jets and Boston Bruins.

This report comes from Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger. In TSN‘s latest “Insider Trading” segment, LeBrun said the Jets will most likely be interested in Dillon, though “he’s probably not at the top of their list”. Meanwhile, LeBrun had this to say about Dillon.

“I can tell you half a dozen teams so far have expressed interest in [Brenden Dillon],” said LeBrun, via TSN, “including, I’m told, the Boston Bruins”.

LeBrun also mentioned the Carolina Hurricanes, who are looking to fill the huge hole that Dougie Hamilton‘s injury has left on their blueline.

Winnipeg Jets

If the Jets trade for Dillon, they will likely do it sooner rather than later. Right now, their blueline is in shambles and they need to add someone to their defense. Unfortunately, the Dustin Byfuglien situation is complicating things.

Dillon would be a nice addition for Winnipeg. He’s a good defensive defenseman who might be able to help fix their many issues. Of course, this all depends on how things go for the Jets. If they’re still in contention after a few weeks, I’d expect them to call the Sharks about Dillon.

He isn’t the only defenseman they are pursuing. Reportedly, Winnipeg is looking at a variety of defensemen, both rentals and ones who have term left on their contract.

Boston Bruins

This might be an example of the Bruins trying to drive up the price on Dillon. Their blueline is already fairly full, though they could use a third-pairing defenseman. The price for Dillon, though, will likely be a bit too hefty for someone in that role. Though I could see Boston kicking the tires on the defenseman market to see if they can find an upgrade, Dillon would be a bit strange for them.
