The Vancouver Canucks are in one of the closest divisions the NHL has ever seen. However, now they have the leg up on all of their divisional rivals.

The Vancouver Canucks did not start the year off great. Honestly, for a while, they looked like nothing more than a bubble team destined to another year of rebuilding. That changed when the Canucks started to win games

Vancouver currently finds themselves on a five-game win streak, and they also went on a seven-game win streak in December. Honestly watching this team climb in the standings has been fun. They are being led by great players like Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson.

Hughes has been on fire the last few games, as he has four points in the last four games. Honestly, I think the biggest thing about the Canucks’ success is who they are beating in these big games. Three of the five games during the Canucks current five-game win streak have come against the Pacific Division.

Beating the Arizona Coyotes pushed the Canucks up in the standings, and beating the Sharks twice put them higher in the Pacific. Honestly, I wouldn’t doubt this team taking a run at the western conference title. The Canucks recently beat the St. Louis Blues by a score of 3-1, they are just 6 points back behind St. Louis for the division title, taking that will only make their run for the Cup that much better.

The Canucks have a lot more time to prove themselves this season. February, March, and April are going to decide their fate.

With teams like the Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Arizona Coyotes chasing them in the division they can not slip up even once.

The Canucks’ next matchup is against the Carolina Hurricanes at Carolina. Getting a win is going to be huge, as Carolina is another young team with something to prove. The Pacific Division has always been considered a weaker division than the Central Division, now they have an opportunity to prove everyone wrong.
