The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday by the score of 5-3. As Tampa Bay continues to stay hot, the team finds itself back at the top of the NHL’s standings.

Saturday afternoon was more of the same in Tampa, Florida, as the Tampa Bay Lightning extended their winning streak to double digits. After a slow start, by their standards, this season, the Lightning have picked up the pace and are back in contention for the Atlantic division title.

This tenth straight win propels the Bolts to a 39-15-5 record (83 points), which is good for second place in the division. Tampa trails only the Boston Bruins, who have 84 points, for first in the division, as well as the top spot in the NHL.

The win also marks the 11th consecutive victory at Amalie Arena, which is a new franchise record. The Lightning have not lost in their home building since the Dallas Stars beat them in overtime on December 19.

Tampa Bay also has point streaks intact, both at home and overall, that extend back beyond the current winning streaks already mentioned. The Lightning are 12-0-1 in their last 13 at home, and they are 11-0-1 overall in their last 12, dating back to before the All-Star break.

Of course, this recent success is the result of tremendous team efforts each night, but there have been a couple of players that have stepped up in big ways.

Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy has a personal point streak that is now at 21 games (19-0-2). He is a big reason the Lightning are leading the NHL in goals against average (1.65) in 2020.

In addition to the solid defensive performance in Tampa, the offense is also helping to propel the team. A key cog in this potent attack, Brayden Point has a 10-game point streak, during which he has racked up three goals and 11 assists.

This tremendous stretch for the Lightning not only has them in contention for a second consecutive Presidents’ Trophy, but it also has them at the top of the league in goals scored (211) and goal differential (+55).

The next test for the Bolts will be the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night in Denver. Despite consecutive losses, including a 3-1 loss to the Los Angles Kings in their Stadium Series game, the Avs will be a tough matchup for the streaking Lightning.

How long will the Lightning continue this streak? While a win in Colorado is no guarantee, one thing is for sure: Tampa Bay is firing on all cylinders right now.
