The Philadelphia Flyers are hitting their peak at the perfect time as the race for the Stanley Cup Playoffs heats up.

The Philadelphia Flyers are the hottest team in the National Hockey League, winning their last nine games. Their 9-1 record over their last 10 games has helped them climb the standings at an alarming rate, as they now sit tied with the Washington Capitals for first place in the Metropolitan Division with 89 points.

Over their current nine-game winning streak, the team donning the white and orange have outscored their opponents 39-17, averaging 4.33 goals per game, while only allowing 1.88 goals per game in that span.

Forward Travis Konecny has played well the whole entire season, as he had tied his career-high in goals (24), and has well surpassed his career mark in assists, sitting with 37 after 64 games. Over this nine-game stretch, Konecny has continued his consistent play with five goals and eight assists.

His willingness to go to the dirty areas, as well as his ability to elevate his play in big moments has Stanley Cup Champion David Reid talking.

Goaltender Carter Hart has recorded seven of the nine wins on this winning streak, owning a goals-against-average of 1.71, with a save percentage of .936. His confidence has grown and he has been rewarded for his strong play.

His head coach Alain Vigneault spoke about his strong play after their 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres Saturday night.

The Flyers have also received secondary scoring from their defensive unit, which as of March 5th, led the entire National Hockey league with 43 goals. That number is now at 44. Ivan Provorov has led the Flyers’ back end with 13 goals on the year, adding 23 assists,  as well as recording a plus/- of +11.

Now even though this stretch of the season has had them face two teams currently in a playoff spot [Columbus Blue Jackets twice, Winnipeg Jets], they have still beaten teams that are on the cusp of making the playoffs. They have picked up two wins against the New York Rangers (3 points out), and a win against the Carolina Hurricanes (2 points out).

The Flyers have been able to score the first goal of the game six times over these last nine games and have been able to close the door once gaining leads.

The most notable win came against the Washinton Capitals, beating them by a score of 5-2 on the road. The team was trailing 1-0 before scoring three unanswered goals in the second period. This game was far from over as the second period came to a close with the Flyers up just one goal. But their continued effort to get to loose pucks and play strong, positioned hockey allowed them to not just hold the lead, but to add two it, scoring twice in the final frame.

The Flyers have the best record over their last 10 games in the entire National Hockey lead going 9-1, which has done wonders in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers are the only team in or near a playoff spot, with a winning record  (6-4-0) over their last 10 games, allowing the team to climb to the highest peak in the division.
