Rocky Wirtz, the owner of the Chicago Blackhawks, announced today that there will be no changes going forward to the team’s front office. Is this a good idea?

If the NHL season was over today, the Chicago Blackhawks would have missed the playoffs for the third straight year since getting swept by the Nashville Predators in the first round. The team’s legendary dynasty is coming to an end but their general manager doesn’t believe it.

It’s perfectly understandable why Stan Bowman is not ready to give up on this team. He built them from the ground up and experienced a decade of success with a phenomenal core of players.

A decade of success makes it hard to let go and it shouldn’t be his job to tear it all down. Bowman has shown time and time again that he is unwilling to shy away from his core.

It was shown back in 2017 when he traded away Artemi Panarin in order to get Brandon Saad back. Saad was part of the team that won the Stanley Cup in 2015 and Bowman traded away one of the best Russian players in the league for him in an attempt to go back to the glory days.

That trade did not pan out and it is considered the worst Blackhawks trade in recent memory. Bowman has also traded away Tevo Teuravainen as a sweetener in order to get the Carolina Hurricanes to get Brian Bickell.

Every general manager has an expiration date and after building a modern-day dynasty, Bowman’s time has come as well. He has shown that he does not have the heart to tear everything down and retry so it’s time for owner Rocky Wirtz to understand that and move on. Keeping Bowman in the office is not fair to both him and the team.
