1. ToreyKrug

The Detroit Red Wings lack a true top pairing defenseman. Torey Krug is the best defenseman available and he’s been playing like a top-pairing defenseman for several years now. Since the start of the 2015-16 season, Krug ranks seventh among defensemen in points per game (minimum 300 games).

During that time, he’s averaged 21:07 of playing time per game, with over 17 of those minutes coming at even strength. Krug would be a perfect fit for the Red Wings because he’d give them a viable top-pairing defenseman.

There are some other factors that could help the Red Wings sign him. First of all, Krug is from Michigan. That might not push him over the fence, but it certainly helps. Krug starred at Michigan State before signing with the Boston Bruins as an undrafted free agent.

Secondly, Krug has played for Jeff Blashill before. Blashill coached the Indiana Ice during the 2008-09 season. In that season, Krug put up 47 points in 59 games. Thirdly, Krug grew up as a huge Red Wings fan. Think about what happened with John Tavares. Maybe Krug follows in his footsteps by signing with his childhood team.

Signing Krug would be huge for the Red Wings because it would give them instant credibility. They can easily afford to give him the long-term deal he’s likely looking for.
