Calgary Flames Are Embracing Social Distancing During Hiatus
The Calgary Flames players have been quite active during the NHL hiatus, keeping fans updated throughout the break.
As we come up on a month without hockey, the Calgary Flames players have been keeping fans up to date with their social distancing activities via social media.
While the whole roster hasn’t been actively updating their social media, there is a good chunk of them that are sharing their activities.
Matthew Tkachuk
Probably the most highlighted Flame in the NHL break is Matthew Tkachuk, who is spending isolation in St. Louis with the rest of his family. His brother, Brady Tkachuk of the Ottawa Senators is also enjoying his time at home and both are sharing their lifestyles. It started out with their sister Taryn, teaching Matthew dances on Tik Tok.

Matthew also has been sharing tips for Calgarians to stay safe and proper handwashing techniques. This week, he was featured on an NHL Hockey at Home series with his family where he gave a tour of his setup. They also played a game of rapid-fire questions where Matthew was credited by his parents to be funnier and a bit more slobby than his
Milan Lucic
Milan Lucic expanded his social media platforms and created an Instagram account at the end of March. There he has been sharing throwbacks and adorable pictures of his kids including training his son on the beauty of one-timers.
He has also been a strong ambassador of health in the City of Calgary, sharing PSA’s on Twitter and making sure his fans are staying safe.
Lucic also took the time to join Ryan Leslie on Instagram live on Friday night where he reminisced about his Stanley Cup runs. He shared his content for being a Flame this year and saying, “I can’t say a bad word about any guy on the team.”
He also credited his decision to be a Flame on the efforts of Brad Treliving and some further convincing from Geoff Ward, Jarome Iginla and Brian McGrattan. Obviously he wishes they could be playing right now and competing for the Stanley Cup.
He felt the team taking a step in the right direction and said, “I really like how our game was trending with the last 12 games. We were really moving in the right direction with our playoff push.” For now, he is spending time in Vancouver with his family to avoid the colder weather in Calgary.
Noah Hanifin
Noah Hanifin also joined Ryan Leslie on Instagram live a few weeks ago and is spending time in Boston with his family. He has fallen into a good routine and joked about some of the guys he typically sees on the golf course in the offseason and shared tips of good places to eat in Boston.
Mark Giordano
Mark Giordano has stayed pretty quiet on his personal social media accounts but joined NHL media for a Pacific Division Zoom call at the end of March with Connor McDavid, Bo Horvat and Oliver Ekman-Larsson. He’s spending his time in his Calgary home with his family.
On this call, he talked about some alternate methods of staying in shape, including a lot of body weight exercises. At the end of the day, they thrive on the ice and Gio said, “We want to be on the ice. That’s the part that sucks right now.” They talked about the playoffs this year (if they still happen). Giordano had an interesting thing to say about it when he “Every team is going to have their guys healthy and ready to go. You’re truly going to have the best version of every team.” Let’s hope he’s right and hockey fans get to see how that plays out in the next few months.
Johnny Gaudreau
Johnny Gaudreau has been another Flame featured on the up and coming TikTok app. His sister has been featuring Johnny Hockey in a variety of videos including an at home body weight workout, as well as various dances and trending TikTok challenges.
Dillon Dube
Dillon Dube has been sticking around in the Calgary area and most recently posted a video of him rollerblading down a residential street likely in his hometown of Cochrane, Alberta hitting almost 30 km/h. At least you can see he’s keeping up his cardio and preparing for when he gets to put his hockey skates back on.
The Flames players have been doing their best to keep in shape and keep busy in the months that should have been spent battling it out for the Stanley Cup. They appear to be in good spirits and health and look forward to resuming the season. Whenever that may be.
