2. Nathan MacKinnon

Nathan MacKinnon’s first four seasons in the NHL were by no means disappointments, but it took some time for the 2013 first overall pick to get to where he is now. Through those first four seasons, his highest point total was 63. Then came the 2017-2018 season which saw MacKinnon truly become a superstar. He put up an incredible 39 goals and 97 points in just 74 games and was a Hart Trophy Finalist.

He quickly proved that year was no fluke, putting up 99 points the next season, and was on pace to score over 100 for the first time in his career this season. With how good he has become it almost feels like a season shy of 100 points next year for the former Halifax Moosehead would be a disappointment.

MacKinnon truly has it all. He is one of the fastest skaters in the league and has hands that match his speed. He also possesses a deadly wrist shot, which played a big part in him scoring a career high 41 goals last season. With players like himself, Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar, the Avalanche will remain a contender for years to come. This pick was phenomenal for the Avs as it looks like they may have taken a future hall of famer.
