Calgary Flames: Dustin Wolf receives WHL goaltender of the year
Thanks to his impressive performance, Calgary Flames prospect Dustin Wolf has been recognized as the WHL’s Goaltender of the Year for the 2019-20 season.
A shortened season is no excuse for Calgary Flames prospect, Dustin Wolf. Thanks to his impressive performance, the young goaltender has been recognized as the WHL’s Goaltender of the Year for the 2019-20 season. The Flames made the official announcement on May 19th and expressed their content for their 2019 7th round draft pick via social media.
Wolf played in 46 out of 63 games in his third season with the Everett Silvertips for a total of 2713 minutes. His record finished at 34-10-2 and nine of his wins were a result of shutouts by the 19 year old.

He lead the league in all the goaltender categories including goals against average, save percentage, shutouts, and tied for wins. Even with the voting for the Del Wilson Memorial Trophy, his statistics alone made him the clear choice for this award.
Before this recognition, Wolf signed a three year entry-level contract with the Calgary Flames on May 1st. When news of this signing broke, Wolf told Brenden Parker on Flames TV, “I came into the draft as an underdog as an undersized goalie and I’m going to continue to do my thing and treat every game like just another game.” He humbly accepts his recognition but realizes he is just getting started and said, “This is where the work begins.”
WHL games were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic as of Friday, March 13th. The Silvertips were slotted to play the Tri-City Americans that evening . Since then, the league has announced that the rest of the season and the WHL playoffs are cancelled this year.
The official announcement from the WHL came on March 23rd. This unfortunately came as no surprise as other professional leagues such as the AHL and ECHL also announced cancellations of their seasons due to public health concerns.
The fate of the remainder of the NHL season is still up in the air making fans eager to hear about the possibility of modified post-season play. Fans are also still waiting for the updated decision on the 2020 Draft that was scheduled to take place on June 26th.
The Silvertips were running a great season and were just one point away from their Division leaders, the Portland Winterhawks. They had also clinched a playoff berth. The team finished with 96 points and 46-13-3-1 record.
As Wolf will soon age out of the WHL, we could hear a lot more about him possibly for the Calgary Flames affiliated AHL and ECHL teams in Stockton and Kansas City. Dustin Wolf is definitely worth keeping an eye on and very well may wear the Flaming C in the future.
