Expect Cam York to officially join the Philadelphia Flyers organization after next season.

Philadelphia Flyers defensive prospect and 2019 1st round pick, Cam York, is expected to turn pro after his sophomore season at Michigan.

This is according to Philadelphia Flyers beat reporter, Sam Carchidi.

If this proves to be so, York will likely join fellow prospects Egor Zamula, Wyatte Wylie, Linus Hogberg, and potentially Wyatt Kalynuk in what will be an absolutely loaded and revamped blue line for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. All of the players mentioned have already signed their entry-level deals with the exception of Kalynuk who is still deciding on whether or not to return to Wisconsin for his senior year.

In his first season at Michigan, York posted solid numbers as a freshman as he went on to score 5 goals and totaled 16 points in 30 games. York’s 16 points were good enough for 4th in team scoring and was a contributor on Michigan’s power play.

What’s interesting here is the Flyers will have some spots to fill on their blue line after next season as Matt Niskanen’s contract expires and they’ll already have to replace veteran defenseman Justin Braun if he chooses not to re sign with Philadelphia this off-season. The only defenseman with contracts passed the 2020-21 season are Ivan Provorov and Shayne Gostisbehere with Travis Sanheim, Phil Myers, and Robert Hagg all needing contracts between this year and next.

If the Flyers were to allow their veteran defenseman to walk and move forward with their own homegrown talent, they could very well ice a defense core consisting of Ivan Provorov, Phil Myers, Travis Sanheim, Cam York, Egor Zamula, Robert Hagg, and Shayne Gostisbehere if he is not moved.

Personally I’d like to see GM Chuck Fletcher attempt to keep at least one of Niskanen or Braun around another season or two as all of the above-mentioned players are 25 years and younger with the exception of Gostisbehere. The future continues to look bright for the Philadelphia Flyers!
