Stanley Cup Playoffs: Hurricanes versus Rangers series preview, prediction
Series Prediction
I’m going with the Carolina Hurricanes in five games. Yes, I know the Rangers swept the Canes this season. And they looked darn good while doing it. However, I’m not going to believe a four-game sample size over a larger sample size.
The Rangers certainly have what it takes to beat Carolina. If Panarin and Zibanejad are clicking, they’re virtually unstoppable. However, the Canes have a pretty darn good topline too and as a trio, I like them better than the Rangers’ top-line trio.
New York’s goaltending is absolutely capable of stealing this series. However, if the Hurricanes play their best hockey, I don’t think there are too many teams who can beat them in a five-game series.
Ultimately, I think defense and depth will determine this series. Getting Hamilton back is such a huge win for the Hurricanes. It can’t be understated. Also, teams who struggle defensively like the Rangers typically don’t do well in the postseason. This will be an exciting series for sure, and I’m looking forward to watching it. But I’ve got to go with the Hurricanes. They’re the more well-balanced team and though the Rangers had a ton of momentum going for them in March, I think the hiatus was a bad thing for them.
