Stanley Cup Playoffs: Panthers vs. Islanders Game 1 start time, live stream
The Florida Panthers and New York Islanders kick off their Stanley Cup Playoffs play-in round series on Saturday, August 1 at 4:00 p.m. EST.
The Stanley Cup Playoffs are back with a huge bang, as the first day of the postseason will feature five games on the schedule. In the third game of the day, the Florida Panthers will try to get some revenge against the New York Islanders, who eliminated them the last time they made the playoffs (2016). This match starts at 4:00 p.m. EST.
I’m fascinated by this series for one reason. These two teams are pretty different. The Panthers rely on scoring goals while the Islanders’ strength is preventing them. While the former has trouble preventing goals, the latter has trouble scoring them. Should be a very interesting matchup, to say the least.

The goal for the Panthers this season was to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After spending so much money last summer, failure wasn’t an option. It required an expanded postseason for this to happen, but the Panthers are at least in a position to be in the real Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Joel Quenneville is a three-time Stanley Cup champion head coach, but even he’ll have his hands full with a talented, but very flawed, roster. Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky will be getting the start in goal for the Panthers, but don’t be surprised if he has a very short leash. He’s coming off arguably the worst NHL season of his career.
NEW YORK ISLANDERS
Expectations for the New York Islanders were sky-high after they made it to the second round of the playoffs last season. Those expectations grew after a remarkably strong 11-3-0 start, which included a 10 game winning streak. They proceeded to follow that winning streak with a five-game winning streak, entering late November with a 16-3-1 record.
However, since that five-game winning streak, the Islanders have been less than impressive. Their record since the winning streak was a paltry 19-20-9, good for 47 points in 48 games. They are, however, getting defenseman Adam Pelech back, which should help quite a bit.
