COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
For the second straight year, the Columbus Blue Jackets have surprised everyone by making the postseason. It’s their fourth straight appearance. The Jackets are led by Pierre-Luc Dubois and Cam Atkinson on offense. Getting everyone back healthy should give them a boost, but their strength lies in their defense.
It was a mystery who the Blue Jackets would go with in Game 1, but today, the team announced they’ll be going with Joonas Korpisalo. Elvis Merzilkins will be his backup. Don’t be surprised if Korpisalo has a relatively short leash, especially in a five-game series.
TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
For the Toronto Maple Leafs, it was a story of two seasons. The first was before they fired Mike Babcock and the second one started after they fired him. Sheldon Keefe has turned the Leafs around, helping them play much better. Auston Matthews nearly tied for the league lead in goals and William Nylander had a very nice bounce-back season after a down year. Mitch Marner was outstanding as well.
