Up 1-0 in their Stanley Cup Playoffs play-in round series, the Carolina Hurricanes will try to make it 2-0 against the New York Rangers.
The New York Rangers will try to even up their Stanley Cup Playoffs qualifying round series against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, Aug. 3, starting at 12:00 noon EST. On Saturday, the Canes beat the Rangers 3-2 in a fast-paced, exciting game. Hopefully, Monday will provide more of the same.
So far, the Stanley Cup Playoffs have provided so much action and drama. Expect no different on Monday as these two division rivals go at it. Saturday’s game was filled with intensity and physicality on both sides of the ice. Monday’s game should provide more of that.

For the Rangers, Jesper Fast will not be playing in Game 2. He was injured early in Game 1. Tony DeAngelo and Igor Shesterkin will be game-time decisions. Meanwhile, for the Hurricanes, Dougie Hamilton will miss his second straight game, though he could return for Game 3.
NEW YORK RANGERS
Game 1 didn’t end well for the Rangers, though they played much better in the final 20 minutes. Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist gave his team a chance to win, but they couldn’t break through Carolina’s defense until it was too late.
Lundqvist is expected to get the start in goal again in Game 2, though the team hasn’t officially announced it yet. Shesterkin could get the start, though he missed Game 1 because he was deemed unfit to play.
CAROLINA HURRICANES
The Hurricanes have to be pretty happy about how Game 1 went. They managed to hold off the Rangers despite not having their best defenseman, Dougie Hamilton. For most of the game, the Canes frustrated their opponent with a stifling defense. It wasn’t until the third period that the Rangers were finally able to generate some offense.
Petr Mrazek is expected to get the start for Carolina. He started Game 1 for them. However, head coach Rod Brind’Amour hasn’t officially named a starter for Game 2. It could very well be James Reimer.
