In a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference Final, the Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins square off in round one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
It’s official. The real Stanley Cup Playoffs are here. In round 1, one of the most interesting matchups is a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference Final. That’s right, the Carolina Hurricanes will face the Boston Bruins.
The Hurricanes come into the series after sweeping the New York Rangers in their play-in round. Meanwhile, the Bruins, after finishing the regular season with the best record in the NHL, failed to win a single game during their round-robin tournament, giving them the fourth seed.

Dougie Hamilton will be in warmups for the Hurricanes and could play tonight. He’s expected to play. At the very least, Hamilton is quite close to returning.
Kevan Miller is on the IR and will not play for the Bruins.
PREVIEW
The Hurricanes are looking dangerous right now. It’s worth pointing out they haven’t played in a while, so that momentum they got against the Rangers might not be there, but they’ve played a meaningful game more recently than the Bruins, who sleepwalked through the round-robin tournament.
On the other side of the ice, Boston’s hoping they can flip the switch and get into playoff mode against a team that’s even better than the team they swept last season in the Eastern Conference Final.
