Vegas Golden Knights grab 2-0 series lead with 4-3 overtime win over Chicago Blackhawks

The Vegas Golden Knights beat the Chicago Blackhawks in a thrilling game that needed extra time to take a 2-0 series lead.

The Vegas Golden Knights were trying to grab a 2-0 series lead while the Chicago Blackhawks were looking to even the series. both teams started fast out of the gate and Vegas had a golden opportunity two minutes into the game when they had a two on one but couldn’t solve Corey Crawford.

Vegas got a scare when Robin Lehner made a save and seemed to pull something because he was laboring but managed to stay in the game. The Hawks made a push for the first goal of the game but Lehner made three incredible blocker saves one after the other.

Paul Stasny got a great feed in front of the net from Jonathan Marchessault and managed to put the puck past Crawford for a 1-0 lead. That goal seemed to motivate the Knights as they continued to push and try to get another goal.

That goal came with four minutes left in the period when Tomas Nosek went in on Crawford and beat him blocker side for the 2-0 lead. The period ended with the Knights on the penalty kill when Vegas got it’s the first penalty of the game when Mark Stone was called for slashing.

The Chicago Blackhawks would begin the second period on the powerplay and would take full advantage of it when Kirby Dach scored off a rebound to make 2-1. The Knights tried to regain their two-goal lead and had a great scoring chance but Crawford was there to make a great save with a mad scramble in front of the net.

Vegas once again got into penalty trouble when Nick Holden got called for interference and Chicago would make them pay when Dominik Kubalik got a great shot and beat Lehner glove side to tie the game at two. The Golden Knights finally got a chance to go on the powerplay when David Kampf got sent to the box for hooking.

The Blackhawks managed to kill the penalty but with two minutes left in the period, Mark Stone found a loose rebound and put it in the back of the net to get the lead again for Vegas. It didn’t take long once again for Blackhawks to respond as with 13 seconds left in the period Dylan Strome got a great pass from Patrick Kane and beat Lehner to once again tie the game at three going into the third period.

The third period was a wild ride as both teams were looking for that crucial goal that would get them the win. Through 10 minutes both goalies were standing tall in net and surprisingly the period ended with no goals.

The game went into overtime to decide a winner and things got exciting, Chicago started the faster of the two teams but Vegas was getting some decent chances as well. The Knights would finally get the game-winning goal when Reilly Smith would get a great pass from Paul Stasny and managed to beat Crawford to end the game.

Vegas now has a 2-0 lead in the series and are two wins away from the next round. Game 3 goes Saturday night at 8 pm eastern, 5 pm pacific.
