2. Andrew Shaw

Andrew Shaw is still a very useful player. However, he’s probably more valuable to another team than the Blackhawks at this point. Shaw is under contract for the next two seasons and has a cap hit of $3.9 million. For a middle-six forward who can play at center or wing, that’s a pretty solid bargain.

But for the Blackhawks, who probably want to create spots for younger players, Shaw’s expendable. Especially if you consider his unfortunately long history of concussions. The Blackhawks simply can’t afford to have him if he’s not at 100%. And there’s no real way to tell if he’s at 100%.

I don’t think Chicago needs his veteran presence. That’s why you have Toews, Brandon Saad, Kane, and Keith. Dach’s probably getting a well-deserved promotion and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s kept, Strome moves to the wing slot to give Dach another center on the second line. Strome has the requirements necessary to be a good wing.

Given his concussion history, it’s hard to see the Blackhawks getting that much for him. But something is better than nothing. Shaw has done a lot of great things for the Blackhawks during his two tenures in Chicago, but it’s time for both parties to part ways.
