The Vegas Golden Knights secured a spot in Round 2 with a come from behind win over the Chicago Blackhawks winning the series in 5.

The Vegas Golden Knights and the Chicago Blackhawks squared off in Gane 5 with a chance for Vegas to move on once again to the second round of the playoffs while the Hawks were trying to stay alive. Knights head coach Pete Deboer went back to Robin Lehner in goal while Paul Stasny made his return to the lineup after missing the last two games.

Vegas was the faster of the two teams out of the gate as they attacked the net early looking for the game’s first goal. Corey Crawford would be busy early on after making 48 saves in the previous game. Even if the Knights were off to the better start it was Chicago who got on the board first when Jonathan Toews found a loose rebound off a Dominik Kubalik shot and managed to get it past Lehner for the 1-0 lead.

The Golden Knights went back to work this time looking for the equalizer but Crawford once again was shutting the door. Vegas was literally throwing everything at the net but couldn’t finish or Crawford was playing stellar in net.

The Blackhawks would add to their lead with less than two minutes in the period when Alex Debrincat at the side of the net got a great pass once again from Dominik Kubalik and put it past Lehner for the 2-0 lead.

Vegas would respond with 30 seconds left in the first period when Max Pacioretty would be at the side of the net and with Crawford swimming in the crease he would find an open space and put it in to cut Chicago lead to one.

It didn’t take long in the 2nd period for Vegas to tie the game as a minute into the period Mark Stone got a great pass from William Karlsson and found the back of the net and the game was level at two.

We expected a response from the Blackhawks and we got it as their superstar Patrick Kane got in on the action three minutes later when he went in on Lehner and beat him 5 hole to give Chicago the lead once again. A couple of minutes later the Knights got another chance to go on the powerplay when Adam Boqvist was sent to the penalty box for holding the stick.

The Golden Knights used the man advantage to great effect as Alec Martinez got a great feed this time from Reilly Smith cross-ice and Martinez put it past Crawford to tie the game once again at three. The 2nd period would end level at three apiece and we would enter the third and final frame wondering who would be able to pull it out.

Once again it didn’t take long into the third period for the Knights to respond as Alex Tuch went in on Crawford got a great shot that led to a rebound but managed to get it past him for a 4-3 lead. The Golden Knights continued their pressure knowing a one-goal lead is never safe and wanted the insurance marker.

They thought they had it when once again Alex Tuch shot the puck into the empty side of the net but after a challenge by the Hawks, it was deemed no goal due to incidental contact in the crease. The Hawks pulled Crawford with 1:14 on the clock pushing for a late equalizer but Lehner picked the best time to pick up his game and shut the door.
