3. Marc-Andre Fleury

Marc-Andre Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights is likely getting bought out or traded this offseason, especially if the Golden Knights sign Robin Lehner to an extension. I’d consider it more likely he gets bought out but I’ll consider him a trade candidate anyway.

On paper, Fleury would make sense. He’s a veteran goaltender who would bring a lot to the Hurricanes. Fleury is used to being a number one, so if Mrazek’s struggles continue, the Canes can rest easy knowing Fleury is capable of handling the workload of a number one goalie. Also, Fleury’s personality would be perfect in Raleigh. Like, could you imagine the hilarious Storm Surges they could do with him?

However, there are some issues. First of all, if he’s traded, Fleury has a $7 million cap hit. The Golden Knights would probably be happy to retain 50% of his cap hit, but even then, $3.5 million is a tad bit pricey. Secondly, the Hurricanes would likely have to trade Reimer in a separate trade since I can’t imagine they’d want a goalie as expensive as Reimer.

Fleury is someone the Hurricanes should keep an eye on. If he’s bought out, Carolina should see how much money he wants. But as a trade candidate, I don’t think Fleury makes the most sense for Carolina, though he’s still a pretty solid option.
