Calgary Flames Bring Back Retro Jerseys Full-Time
The Calgary Flames are bringing back the best retro jerseys in the NHL.
The Calgary Flames announced on Monday that the fan favorite retro jerseys will be their full-time jersey option in the upcoming 2020-21 season.
An announcement that was filtering around the Twitter rumor mill about a week ago and talked about by local sports media.
The Flames were using the Retro Red jerseys as an alternate home jersey every few games and used their Retro White’s for their Heritage Classic game against the Winnipeg Jets last October.

This set of jerseys semi-retires the regular black flaming C logo and replaces it with a white logo with a yellow outline for the home jersey’s and red with a yellow outline for the away jerseys. The other noticeable difference is that these jersey’s no longer feature the use of the Alberta and Canada flags on each shoulder. The team has shared multiple photos of what they will look like with Captain Mark Giordano modeling it.
The retro designs are inspired by the earliest jerseys the Flames wore when the team made the move from Atlanta to Calgary in 1980. It is also such a popular design among fans because they are the same design the Flames wore when they won their first and only Stanley Cup in 1989.
Mark Giordano also commented on the team’s approval of the jerseys saying, “There is a certain amount of pride for the current players knowing that we carry on a legacy and tradition. They look great and feel even better on. I think they are the coolest jerseys in the league.”
Fans who have not gotten their hands on a retro jersey yet will still fit in at home games as their alternate jersey will feature their classic red and black logo style as their third jersey option. The Retro collection is already available for purchase in the team store, the Fan Attic.
