NHL fans should be wishing for one thing only from Santa this Christmas.

Happy Christmas to all of our readers and followers and, like us, you probably wished for a complete 2020-21 NHL season this year.

Of course, the 2020-21 season is a go and it is set to commence on Jan. 13, 2021, with a five-game slate on Opening Night highlighted by the Toronto Maple Leafs taking on the Montreal Canadiens and the Tampa Bay Lightning raising their Stanley Cup banner against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Eleven games will then take place on Jan. 14, 2021, and we highlighted the five games we are most excited about from the NHL’s slate of Season Openers.

However, in a year that has been so tough for so many due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, things going to plan isn’t exactly a given anymore.

Therefore, all NHL fans should have asked Santa for one thing this year and that is a complete season in 2020-21 and the chance to see a Stanley Cup Champion crowned.

Now, as great as Santa is, he probably doesn’t have the power to bring a global Pandemic that is wreaking havoc under control. I mean, if he did, then that would solve a lot of problems.

However, if the big man could somehow find a way to deliver us a completed season in 2020-21 without too many complications then that would be the best Christmas gift ever.

There will be complications, of course there will be, and we see every week in the NFL that a team facility has to close for a couple of days due to a positive COVID-19 testing.

With the NHL not playing the 2020-21 56-game regular season inside a Bubble, some players are almost certain to test positive with cases on the rise and a cluster of positive cases could throw the schedule, and perhaps the season, into utter chaos.

But, this is the season of goodwill so, keeping in the spirit of that, let’s hope that things go as smoothly as possible and we can enjoy a mouthwatering sprint to the postseason without too many disruptions.

After all, there will be a plethora of compelling storylines to keep an eye on throughout 2020-21, while every single game will be critical given the shortened season.

Plus, the Stanley Cup Playoffs are the best time of year and all hockey fans want to see a Stanley Cup Champion crowned in 2020-21.

So, while no doubt we have all opened some lavish gifts today, the best present we could ask for from Santa would be to get a full, uninterrupted season in 2020-21 so we can fully enjoy the gift that is the NHL.
