NHL: 30 best Game 7 performances in Stanley Cup history: 17. Jordan Binnington

  • 33 shot attempts
  • 32 saves
  • 97 save percentage

At just the age of 25, Jordan Binnington already has a spot on this list. With a chance to carve his name in the history books, Binnington did just that after playing a stellar Game 7 during the 2019 NHL Finals for the St. Louis Blues. Standing on the other side of the ice with championship pedigree and a raucous crowd, was the Boston Bruins.

After getting the doors blown off then in Game 6, the Bruins were expected to hoist yet another Stanley Cup in front of their home fans. That of course, simply didn’t come to fruition as Binnington wouldn’t allow anything cheap and easy to reach the back of his net.

The Blues hit first as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Refusing to stand back and get hit in the mouth, the Bruins pressured Binnington relentlessly. He didn’t allow it to get to him though, as he kept them scoreless in the opening frame. Realizing that their time was running out, the Bruins picked up the pace in the second period. But, much like the first quarter, Binnington gave them no signs of hope.

With all 20 minutes remaining, the Blues lead grew even more as they pocketed two more goals. Although the chance of a comeback at this point was virtually impossible, the Bruins continued to press the action and finally got one to go in. While they may have ruined Binnington’s bid to pitch a shutout, the Blues easily walked away with the win. Binnington’s 97 percent save percentage checks in at fifth all time in Game 7’s of the NHL Finals, further proving his dominance and rightful place on this list.
