Tyson Foerster is headed to have a breakout season on the Philadelphia Flyers in 2021. It all depends on where he ends up!
Tyson Foerster, the Philadelphia Flyers 2020 draft pick, is making waves in training camp and the preseason games so far. He’s played in the first preseason game against the New York Islanders and is set to play in the game against Boston tonight as well. While his preseason debut was quiet, it’s likely that he’ll be ready for game 2 and make more of a splash in his second game against the Bruins.
After last Christmas when Alain Vigneault put him on the same line as James van Riemsdyk and Sean Couturier in what he called his “sensitive moment” to give the first-round draft pick a sense of what it would be like to be on the team, Vigneault has said that he’s seen Forester improve since then and he’s caught the attention of the head coach.
"“Any young player that comes to camp has got to get our attention, right?” Vigneault said. “…In Tyson’s case, I’m looking at from what I saw last year at Christmas during that short little time when we were preparing for the season, and what I’m seeing now and what I saw at rookie camp, and I see definite strides the right way. There’s definitely solid improvement on his part."
It would be great if Foerster made the Flyers, but the Phantoms, the AHL team for the Flyers, is probably where he’ll end up. This is great because he’ll be able to gain experience from the team and shine. He’ll likely be called up from Phantoms to play a couple of games during the season if he continues to impress during the preseason games. It’s a great sign that he’s made an impression on Alain Vigneault and the coaching staff, and if he continues, 2021 is sure to be his breakout year.
Of course, there’s always a chance that he’ll be on the Flyers. Without Nolan Patrick, the Flyers are missing a key part of their forwards, and Tyson Forester might just be the ticket to filling that space. We’ll just have to wait and see where he ends up!
