The 2021-22 version of the Detroit Red Wings is something we have not seen for a while and it is comforting. The team is refreshed, younger, and edgier.

The team is off to a hot start but the play of the team has dramatically changed.

The team is younger. With Raymond, Seider, and Pius Suter the Red Wings are turning the page and bringing in younger talent to jump-start the rebuild and the kids are not disappointing.

Raymond and Seider both have produced offensively and have not looked out of place. They have adapted to the NHL style quickly and show no signs of slowing down.

The powerplay is also different but in a good way. The powerplay possesses more movement to it, with quicker passes and better shot selection.

The difference in the powerplay is attributed to the arrival of former NHL’er Alex Tanguay, who is the new associate coach and in charge of the powerplay. The change has resulted in Detroit creating more chances, being a little more creative, and giving the opposition something to think about.

Something happened this offseason because the Red Wings are more aggressive this year than in years past and it is paying off. The Red Wings are more involved in scrums and are not afraid to mix it up whenever the opportunity presents itself.

This version is what we expected from this team years ago. Although the rebuild is still intact, this team, as a whole, looks ready to compete for a playoff spot and prove people wrong, that they are coming for anyone and everyone.

Seeing the Red Wings play this way is a breath of fresh air. They are tired of being shoved around and they are making the opposition pay this year.

Yes, it is only a few games and yes things could change tomorrow. However, what if this is the season to put it together, play like a cohesive unit, and make the playoffs?

Making the playoffs would be a big hill to climb. However, we have all seen crazy things happen in the NHL and it has been done by teams who were in the basement the previous year.

Do not count out this version of the Red Wings. They have more talent, are playing with an edge, and have a purpose.

The Red Wings look like an NHL team this year, with a focus on making the playoffs. Again we are still early in the season but it could happen.

The Red Wings hope to turn things around sooner than later. This could be that year that they surprise people and actually make the playoffs.
