NHL: Most surprising 40 goal seasons in NHL history: 14. Brad Boyes – 2007-08 St. Louis Blues

Brad Boyes is a player that might not stand out when bringing him up in hockey circles, but he had this awesome season in the middle of a productive career. He was someone who could score 15 goals for your team, and he provided the intangibles to help a team win. He could kill penalties when the team needed it, and he could stop opposing offenses. For two random seasons near the beginning of his career, he looked like he could become a scorer.

Boyes had a wild start to his career. The Maple Leafs draft him, but they traded him to the Sharks before he played a game in the deal that sent Owen Nolan to Toronto. He was then traded to Boston for Jeff Jillson, then traded once again from the Bruins to St. Louis for Dennis Wideman.

He was only 24 years old when he finally got to the Blues, and it quickly looked like the Bruins made a huge mistake. Just a few months after the trade, Boyes started on his first 40-goal season.

He only had 17 goals the season before, so this massive jump was unexpected. Boyes scored 43 goals, and then he had 33 goals the next season. In 2009-10, he was right back to 14 goals that season, and then the Blues traded him the season after. He had a wild career, but this one season really stands out.
