The Calgary Flames have one of the most interesting stories in hockey right now. After not qualifying for the playoffs last year and getting bounced out of the first round the previous two, they could have thrown in the towel on their team. This team has not gotten out of the first round since 2015.

The Flames definitely did not have the biggest expectations going into this season, but they are making people pay attention to them as the season continues into January and the second half of the year.

Something interesting happened when the puck dropped on the 2021-22 season. The Calgary Flames started to play a lot better. There are a lot of reasons for this turnaround, and we are going to get to some of them today.

The Flames still have a lot of hockey to go on the year, but as of now, there are plenty of reasons to think they could go on a playoff run this year especially considering they have some expiring contracts that are going to be up at the end of the year.

The Flames said goodbye to their captain this past offseason in Mark Giordano who was taken by the Seattle Kraken during the expansion draft, but that loss has not stopped them on the ice, as a handful of different players have stepped up in the absence of Giordano.
