The Toronto Maple Leafs and Arizona Coyotes face off tonight in the desert for Auston Matthews’ first return against the Coyotes in over a year. Watching Matthews play in Arizona is always a treat, and definitely should be an interesting game tonight for the Leafs as they continue their tear in the midst of a long road trip.
This will be the fifth game back since the COVID pause for the Maple Leafs. They enter the game with a 3-0-1 record since then with some impressive wins against the Vegas Golden Knights, Edmonton Oilers, and Ottawa Senators. For a team in the midst of a tough playoff race with Tampa Bay and Florida, this game matters for the points.
The Coyotes haven’t been great this season, but two out of their seven wins on the year have come in their past five games, so that is a bit of a hot streak for a team that far down in the standings.
