The Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks faced off on Monday night in San Jose. The game was high scoring from the start as a combined five goals were scored during the first period alone, three of which belonged to Timo Meier.

A natural hat trick is an accomplishment in itself, but Meier didn’t stop there scoring two more goals in the second to set a franchise record for five goals in a single game.

After the game, Sharks coach Bob Boughner had this to say about the amazing night from Meier:

"You could see guys looking at each other. It’s the way he scored them as well. The patience, the shots, picking the corners. Those goals were pretty goals."

The goals truly were amazing to see, check out the compilation of all the goals here:

Meier now has 20 goals and 45 points through 35 games so far this year. The young forward definitely has a bright future and is heading to his first all-star game this year which is going to be fun to watch based on how hot he was last night.

Meier didn’t score one type of goal either, some were snipes, some were hard-working and gritty goals, but all were great to see for the cause of getting the victory. Meier had six shots on the night and was just electric.

On the flip sides of things, you have to feel for Jonathan Quick and the Kings as sometimes you just run into a hot team and a hot player at the wrong time. Meier and the Sharks now have 44 points on the season and are just a point behind the Kings and Ducks for second in the Pacific Division. After a few seasons, all of the California teams seem to be competing at a high level again.

The Sharks’ next game is on Thursday against the Seattle Kraken. These divisional games matter especially as the playoff race heats up during the next month.
