Red Wings’ Fabbri Out for the Rest of the Regular Season
Detroit Red Wings forward Robby Fabbri will miss the rest of the regular season with a torn ACL. This is the second time he has missed time with the same type of injury.
Fabbri was acquired from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Jacob de la Rose in November of 2019. Since arriving in Detroit he has been one of the top-scoring players for Detroit, always playing a top 6 forward role. Playing either center or wing, he has put up some excellent offensive numbers.
This is the second time for a torn ACL for Fabbri. He previously tore an ACL in September of 2017 while with the Blues. He would go on to miss playing time and some questioned if he was injury-prone.
He would answer those questions when he was traded to the Red Wings sometime later where he stayed healthy and his offensive production immediately got noticed. He was effective in many ways on the ice, often playing a big role in Detroit’s wins.
Robby Fabbri is out for the rest of the regular season for the Red Wings.
Offensively he is a gifted player, dishing the puck to rushing teammates while boasting a powerful slapshot. He could score in a variety of ways, most of them making the defense of the opposition look like rookies.
Fabbri plays the top 6 role well because of his offensive creativity and is often on the first power-play because of his offensive awareness and ability to create chances. Defensively, he is responsible and is covering his man in the neutral and defensive zones.
This season, Fabbri has 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points in 56 games. He has the potential to be the leading scorer on the Red Wings but the team as a whole has been struggling lately.
If Detroit makes a push and qualifies for the last playoff spot then we could see Fabbri return. If not, but everything goes well, Fabbri will be returning for training camp and will be ready for the regular season.
With the injury to Fabbri, the Red Wings had an open spot at forward to fill. With that vacancy, Detroit recalled forward Taro Hirose to fill that void. This season with the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins Hirose has 14 goals and 31 assists for 45 points in 52 games.
The Red Wings will have to overcome Fabbri’s injury as they make a push for the last playoff spot in the East.
