Pat Foley has piloted the broadcast booth of the Chicago Blackhawks since 1981, but April 14th marked his final time as the voice of the team. The club looked to get the legendary broadcaster a win in his send-off game, and they did not disappoint.

Pat Foley was able to call a Blackhawks’ win once again.

The Blackhawks took on the San Jose Sharks, who hoped to avoid playoff elimination by beating Chicago. However, the Hawks constantly played one step ahead. They continually pulled ahead after the Sharks tied the game numerous times. When the game could not be decided in 60 minutes, Alex DeBrincat put the game away in a shootout.

For the Blackhawks as a team, this victory has no real implications. They were already eliminated from the playoffs, and they have no first-round pick of their own to look forward to this year. There is nowhere to go but up, and now that Kyle Davidson has announced his plan to rebuild, it looks like team morale is the only thing at stake for the remainder of the season.

Foley witnessed a variety of important moments in Blackhawks’ history. He was the play-by-play announcer for the team during their dark times, and he got to watch the rise of the dynasty team that brought three Stanley Cups to Chicago. However, as the team continues to suffer the long-term consequences of Stan Bowman’s tenure as general manager, Foley signed off for the final time as a new era of Blackhawks hockey begins.

The Blackhawks take on the Nashville Predators Saturday, April 16 at 11:30 a.m. CST. Considering the Predators are currently in a playoff spot, whether or not the Blackhawks can pull off the win will be much more important for the standings. For now, though, the team can feel good knowing they were able to give a legend a proper send-off.
