Tampa Bay Lightning: No One Can Stop Steven Stamkos

Steven Stamkos has his sights set on a third consecutive Stanley Cup championship.

The Tampa Bay Lightning forward has been absolutely unstoppable as his team prepares for what it hopes will be a third straight championship season. The Bolts captain has played a major role in his club’s four-game winning streak, during which, the team has averaged over six goals per game.

Stamkos has gone well beyond his typical production in that span. He reached the 100-point mark on Tuesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and he extended his string of games with three or more points to five in a row.

This marks the first time in number 91’s career that he has reached 100 points (his previous career-high, which was set during the 2018-2019 season, was 98), and he became the first player with five straight contests with three or more points since the 1992-1993 campaign.

Steven Stamkos has been dominant for the Lightning.

With 21 points (seven goals and 14 assists) in his last seven games, Stamkos could not have gotten hot at a better time. Tampa Bay has two games left on its schedule before the regular season wraps up on April 29.

The Lightning are attempting to hold off the Boston Bruins in order to clinch a top-three spot in the Atlantic Division. The lead that the Bolts are hoping to keep safe is three points. Boston also has two games to go.

For the back-to-back champions, though, the ultimate goal is not to simply earn a favorable position entering the postseason. Tampa will look for Stamkos to continue his offensive explosion against (most likely) the Toronto Maple Leafs in round one.

The Leafs have the second-best offense in the NHL, scoring 3.8 goals each time they take the ice, so the Lightning will need as many goals as possible to earn a first-round series victory over Auston Matthews and company.

Stamkos will be the man to lead the way as both the captain and the team’s leader in goals (39), assists (62), and points (101).

Stamkos and the Lightning will look to stay hot as they finish their season with games against the Blue Jackets and New York Islanders.
