The Buffalo Sabres had a very special guest sing the national anthem ahead of their final game of the regular season on Friday. Sabres goaltender Malcolm Subban sang the anthem ahead of the NHL game.
Malcolm Subban, who was traded to Buffalo this season, hasn’t played with the team since suffering a season-ending surgery in January.
Getting him back on the ice at the end of the year for the anthem definitely was fun to see, and a lot of his teammates and former teammates in Chicago enjoyed listening to him sing.
The Sabres and Blackhawks played in a season finale last night, with Buffalo coming out on top in overtime. The Hawks and Sabres both had underwhelming seasons missing out on the postseason yet again.
While the Sabres might have missed out on the playoffs, Subban singing the anthem provided for a moment of fun that hopefully will lead over into next season. Check out the full video below:
Buffalo and Chicago both are on the outside looking into the postseason this year. With one more game for the regular season on Sunday between the Winnipeg Jets and Seattle Kraken, the Stanley Cup playoffs are almost here scheduled to kick off on Monday.
While this was a better season than normal for Buffalo, they still fell short of the postseason. They do not have the best chances for the first overall pick though so that is a success. Chicago on the other hand is just in the midst of starting a tough rebuild under new general manager Kyle Davidson.
Usually, a regular-season finale between two NHL teams heading to the golf course is something to just get past on the calendar, but Subban singing the anthem made things entertaining. Next season let’s hopefully see him do that in pads ahead of a game he is playing in!
