The playoffs are supposed to be an opportunity for a fresh start, and sometimes that can cost teams. The Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues played a tough game last night in Minnesota.

With one loss last night, the Minnesota Wild gave up their home-ice advantage to the St. Louis Blues who now just need to win their next three home games to advance to the next round.

The Minnesota Wild had not beaten the Blues in the regular season, but I think the nice thing fans could get behind is the fact that the postseason is a different beast than the regular season. That has been disproved at least after game one of the series.

The Blues won 4-0 thanks to a hat trick from David Perron and a shutout from Ville Husso who put up a 25-7-6 record this season in the net.

Sometimes all you need is a hot goalie to win, for the Blues tonight they had that and the better team on the ice throughout. The Blues won the special teams battle on the night scoring two power-play goals on six opportunities whereas the Wild couldn’t get anything done on the same amount of chances.

So let’s dive in with three takeaways on the game and where the two teams go from here.
