If you really think about it, Connor McDavid had his least impressive game of round two on Thursday. It was his only night in which he scored just one point all round for the Edmonton Oilers. Yet, that point means more than all the previous ones before.
Connor McDavid scored just over five minutes into overtime. After a back and forth game that saw Edmonton come back from a 2-0 deficit and a 4-3 deficit, they got things done in overtime.
Connor McDavid has seven goals and 19 assists good for 26 points through the first 12 games of playoff action. His years of first-round exits seem to be behind him with a clutch showing all postseason.
McDavid is working to do all the little things right, and it has paid off on the ice. Just check out how he worked to try and get the puck back along the boards before eventually scoring the series-winning goal:
Who else but McDavid would have scored in this big moment? He hadn’t had a point all game and did not log a multipoint night – his first time since May 8th – game four of the first round. Yet tonight’s point was bigger than any that came before.
Connor McDavid sent his team to the Western Conference Final. A place they have not been to since 2006 when they eventually would lose in the Stanley Cup Final.
This is the best Oilers team with Connor McDavid, and now their group has a bit of time to rest before facing off against the winner of the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues series. Colorado leads that series 3-2 and if they do get out of the second round then fans will get a treat watching McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon face off for a best of seven series.
Just check out MacKinnon’s goal from game five on Wednesday:
The Edmonton Oilers are the second team to clinch their spot in the conference final. Winning four straight against Calgary is no joke, and now Oilers fans can get ready for another series against another opponent.
