The St. Louis Blues were one of the surprising teams out of the Western Conference this past season. While many expected them to potentially take a step back with Vladimir Tarasenko wanting a trade and the team continuing to age, they did the opposite having one of their best seasons to date.

David Perron has played for a few different teams throughout his career, but St. Louis has always been his team.

Perron was drafted by the Blues in the first round of the 2007 NHL draft. He was drafted 26th overall and was in the league the next year putting up 27 points in 62 games with the Blues.

Perron would spend the next six years with the Blues before being traded to Edmonton ahead of the 2013-14 season. Edmonton would then trade him to Pittsburgh in 2014-15 and Pittsburgh would trade him to the Ducks the next year. Perron then re-signed with the St. Louis Blues and was back with the team for a short stint in 2016-17 before being claimed by the Vegas Golden Knights in the expansion draft.

Perron would finish that season with the Golden Knights being a critical part of their run to the Stanley Cup Final. He then re-signed once again with the Blues on a four-year deal that is expiring this offseason.

Every contract David Perron has signed in the NHL has been with the Blues. Despite playing for four other teams, Perron has always had that home in St. Louis and has been with the team for three separate stints.

Perron is 34 years old. He has won a Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019 and he has played 973 games in the NHL. This past season was another strong season for Perron putting up 57 points in 67 games, and he was the best player for the team in the postseason putting up 13 points including a team-leading nine goals during their two-round playoff trip.

Perron is a fan favorite and he has said he wants to keep playing with this team. Now all that has to happen is the Blues need to actually get him signed.

The Blues have about nine million in cap space to work with this offseason. Their main free agents include Tyler Bozak, David Perron, Niko Mikkola, Scott Perunovick, Nick Leddy, and Ville Husso. Obviously, they are not going to be bringing back all of those players but Perron should be one of the guys that is brought back.

Perron might have to take a bit of a pay cut if he wants term with the Blues but it is hard to imagine he would sign a contract with any other team at this stage of his career.

The Blues have to bring back this fan favorite. He is still a reliable 50 point scorer and he is someone this team can use up and down the lineup as they decide what is next for their team.
