The Second Player: Connor Murphy

Connor Murphy is 29 years old. He is not the young up-and-coming player he was when the Hawks traded for him in 2017. Now he is a veteran player who has played in over 500 NHL games and has only been to the playoffs once in a bubble season.

Murphy deserves a chance to play for a good team. He has been one of the best defensemen the Blackhawks have had the past few years but put him on a good team and he could be great.

Murphy is signed for four seasons at 4.4 million a year. Honestly, that is a really good deal for a team looking to add a top defenseman on a really good contract.

Trading Murphy could be a big move for the Hawks, especially considering they can take advantage of a team’s cap situations. Murphy has been a top-two defenseman in Chicago for the past few years, his contract makes him move valuable considering it has a lower number.

A team like Minnesota that has cap issues or even the champs in Tampa Bay could use a player like Murphy. It is important to note that Murphy does have a ten-team no-trade clause in his contract so whoever they deal him to would have to not be on that list.
