The Buffalo Sabres are sending number 30 to the rafters. Former Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller is getting his number retired.
Ryan Miller played 796 games in the NHL. Over the course of his career, he posted a .914 save percentage and a goals-against-average of just 2.64.
With the Sabes, he played 540 NHL games over the course of his 11-year career with the team. He helped send the Sabres to the playoffs four times including two trips to the Conference Final in 2006 and 2007.
He won a Vezina Trophy with the Sabres in 2010 and leads the Sabres in wins and games played for a goaltender. Ryan Miller sits 14th in the NHL for wins by a goaltender and he is 18th all-time for games played by a goalie
Miller was an instrumental part of the Sabres for a long time, and it was great to see the team announce his jersey retirement this offseason. Check out the video the team put out below:
Ryan Miller is one of those goalies. Like Henrik Lundqvist in New York and Carey Price in Montreal, Miller did everything he could to help get his team to the playoffs. He is one of the biggest reasons the Sabres made it to the Conference Final two years in a row and the team is still missing an elite goaltender like him on their blue line.
Miller would go on to play for the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Ducks, but he never had the success he had in Buffalo.
Despite the Sabres’ struggles, filling the stadium for Ryan Miller’s jersey retirement night should not be an issue. Miller was drafted in the fifth round of the 1999 NHL Draft. With some pretty good draft picks for this upcoming draft who knows who the Sabres could potentially bring in. We will be covering more of that later this offseason ahead of the 2022 NHL Draft!
