– The Mighty Ducks
The Mighty Ducks released in 1992 with their first movie following a Minneapolis attorney who has to do his community service coaching a peewee hockey team. Emilio Estevez stars as attorney turned hockey coach Gordon Bombay.
This is a great underdog story which has led to a heck of a lot of spin offs. Disney made two more Mighty Ducks movies, as well as a new series streaming on Disney Plus. The Anaheim Ducks came into the NHL as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim based off of this movie.
– Slap Shot
The last movie all hockey fans should watch comes with a warning right off the top. The 1977 hockey movie Slap Shot is rated R.
Slap Shot follows a minor league hockey team in Charlestown, the Chiefs. Player/coach Reggie Dunlop, played by Paul Newman, spends the movie trying to make the team relevant again and tries to find out who owns the Chiefs.
This movie has some great one liners for adult hockey fans, but really it might not be appropriate for all audiences.
Let us know in the comments if there are any other hockey movies you are going to watch this offseason!
