The Montreal Canadiens’ Efforts to Rebuild

The Montreal Canadiens will have to keep updating their team as the season progresses, as the Canadiens have changed their roster this past summer in a major way that is shaping up their rebuild.

The Montreal Canadiens have made a lot of moves, starting with the trade acquisition of Kirby Dach, a third-line center, in exchange for two draft picks. They also acquired Sean Monahan from the Calgary Flames for future Considerations.

The team also traded away a nifty defenseman in Jeff Petry, along with fourth-line forward Ryan Poehling to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Mike Matheson and a fourth-round draft pick in 2023.

These moves tell us how the team is retooling and shaping up their team, with a younger core group of players leading the Habs into the upcoming season and giving the fans a preview of what is to come.

There will probably be more changes for the Montreal Canadiens in 2022-23.

The Montreal Canadiens are doing their best to build their hockey team for the future.

However, that does not mean they will be heading to the Stanley Cup final next season. The Canadiens are taking strides, but they are not there yet.

The current blue line is not the highest ranked by far compared to some of the other tandems in the league. In fact, theirs is toward the bottom of the league. To contend, changes will have to be made.

The Canadiens’ current salary cap is over the limit by six million, but that does not mean they will be unable to make moves accordingly.

The team has a few talented defensemen on their roster, with a couple of good prospects that will look to excel this year. However, we will have to wait until the end of the regular season to see how the changes are made surrounding the current roster.

As the season approaches, the Montreal Canadiens will determine how playing with the current young roster will affect their 2022/2023 regular season and beyond. The hope will likely be to land a solid draft pick in the lottery of 2023 or finish with poise.
