The Philadelphia Flyers played their first game of the 2022 preseason on Saturday against the Boston Bruins. The puck dropped at 6 P.M. ET in Wells Fargo Center and was the first game back for either team this season.
The Flyers ended up winning this one 2-1, giving John Tortorella his first win behind the Flyers bench. While the preseason doesn’t matter a lot, seeing players shine is nice even if the games don’t mean much. A few Flyers stood out in the first preseason game for the Flyers.
Cates Brothers Shine For Philadelphia Flyers
The Philadelphia Flyers played a strong preseason game against the Bruins on Saturday. While young star Morgan Frost led the team in ice time, Noah Cates scored the first goal of the game on the power play for the Flyers.
Here is Noah Cates’s goal on the power play against the Boston Bruin. The pass from Morgan Frost helped set up the goal and is definitely something fans will want to see more of this season.
Now if that first goal wasn’t enough, his brother Jackson Cates scored the game-winning goal with under five minutes to go in the game. Jackson’s goal was more of a tip-in in front of the net on a shot from Egor Zamula. At the end of the day though both brothers managed to start the preseason with a goal, a great thing for anyone trying to make the team.
The brothers averaged under 15 minutes of ice time yet they got involved with some shots on goal and each registering a hit. This was a good game for the brothers, and I think it is starting to make Noah a lock for the NHL lineup when the regular season comes around.

The Flyers are back in action on Tuesday when they face off against the Buffalo Sabres in Buffalo. This should be a big matchup for fans to see as by then the Flyers will have had a bit more time to practice as a team ahead of the game.
Early preseason games are great, but at the end of the day, it is more of a way for the players to warm up and get ready for the regular season. 2018 third-round pick Jakub Lauko scored the only goal on the night for the Bruins.
