The NHL has just four games on the schedule for Friday, Oct 14, 2022, but that doesn’t mean there are not a lot of predictions and NHL betting odds to discuss. Yesterday the league saw the Rangers beat the Wild 7-3, and the Flames beat the defending cup champs 5-3, so what madness does the league have in store for us tonight?

NHL Betting Odds and Predictions: Original Six Matchup In Detroit

The four games tonight include an original six matchup, a rematch of a 2019 Stanley Cup series, a goaltending battle in Winnipeg and Brent Burns return to San Jose.

Montreal Canadiens vs Detroit Red Wings

Spread: -1.5 (DET)
Moneyline: DET -164 MON +136
Total: Over/Under 6.5

The Detroit Red Wings welcome the Montreal Canadiens to Detroit for the first time this season. Montreal is fresh after beating the Toronto Maple Leafs, while the Wings go into tonight hoping to start their season on a good note. With it being the Wings home opener, it is hard to bet against them in this situation.

Tampa Bay Lightning vs Columbus Blue Jackets

Spread: -1.5 (TBL)
Moneyline: TBL -192 COL +158
Total: Over/Under 6.5

In 2019, the Columbus Blue Jackets swept the Tampa Bay Lightning in their worst playoff series of the past four seasons. Tonight we get to see that matchup again as the Blue Jackets play their first home game of the season after losing 4-1 to the Hurricanes. WIth Laine out, it is hard to imagine Tampa Bay doesn’t get their first win.

New York Rangers vs Winnipeg Jets

Spread: -1.5 (WPG)
Moneyline: WPG -137 NYR +112
Total: Over/Under 6.5

The Jets welcome the Rangers at 8 PM ET. While this is the home opener for the Winnipeg Jets, I am still not betting against the 2-0-0 Rangers who have looked great so far this season under new captain Jacob Trouba.

Carolina Hurricanes vs San Jose Sharks

Spread: -1.5 (CAR)
Moneyline: CAR -215 SJS +176
Total: Over/Under 6

Finally, we have a big San Jose matchup with Brent Burns returning to his old team for a game. I do not see the Sharks winning tonight and personally, I think Brent Burns scores a goal against his former team. He was second on the team in icetime during the Hurricanes’ first game of the season and he led the team in shots with six.
